Velammal Medical College MBBS allotment references · 2026

These are observed ranges extracted from the allotted-to college field in Tamil Nadu’s Round 3 lists dated 12 October 2026. They are not certified category closing cutoffs or predictions. GRANK is a quota-list rank, not NEET All India Rank; government- and management-quota lists use different rank scales. Government-quota community labels describe the candidate, not necessarily the reservation category of the allotted seat. The separate government-school 7.5% list is not included.

Cutoffs planning guide

Student planning guide · Cutoffs

The guidance below is a reusable MedCollege planning guide. It explains how to assess the evidence above; it does not assert additional facilities, fees, seats or outcomes at this college.

Read the rank scale before the number

A cutoff comparison begins with the examination, counselling authority and rank list. Tamil Nadu quota-list rank, NEET All India Rank, marks and percentile are different measures. A number can look more favourable simply because it belongs to a different scale. Carry the rank label into every note or spreadsheet you create. Do not convert between these measures using an unsupported estimate. The historical tables on this page retain their college code and source scope so a student can compare like with like.

Match the course and institution identity

Check the full college identity alongside the qualification. An MBBS last-rank table should not be used as evidence of admission chances for MD, MS, an allied-health course or a super-specialty programme. Similar college names and changing abbreviations can create another source of error. When a historical document uses an earlier name, retain the identity mapping in your notes. Your counselling choice must still match the actual course and institution in the current option list rather than an informal shortened name.

Keep year and counselling phase together

A last rank belongs to a particular admission year and stage. Earlier and later phases can differ because of upgrades, additional seats, vacancies and the rules for participation. A later figure should not automatically be described as the final cutoff unless the source establishes that scope. Compare the same phase across years when examining a trend, and use within-year changes only to understand the stages represented. A historical movement is context, not a timetable for how the next admission cycle will behave.

Use only an eligible category

A category-specific rank is relevant only when the applicant satisfies the conditions for that category and has the necessary accepted evidence. A lower or higher historical closing number does not create eligibility. Keep open, reserved, minority, community and NRI categories separate where the source distinguishes them. Read the glossary and counselling instructions rather than guessing what a shortened category code means. If a required certificate is missing or disputed, resolve that issue before using a category’s historical rank to organise preferences.

Understand blanks and absent rows

An empty cell, dash or missing college row can have several possible meanings within a source. It should not automatically become zero, an open seat or proof that nobody applied. Preserve the source’s absence rather than filling it with a predicted figure. When a chart uses a category with available history, the chart title must identify that category. Do not substitute one category’s numbers for another simply to make a continuous line. A clear explanation of missing history is more useful than a complete-looking but inaccurate graph.

Compare opening and closing measures carefully

Some sources provide both an opening and closing rank, while others provide only a last-rank reference. These values are not interchangeable. An opening rank does not necessarily represent the minimum qualification needed, and a closing rank is not a guarantee that every candidate ranked ahead of it obtained the seat. Preferences, eligibility, participation and allotment conditions matter. Retain the source’s exact measure in your comparison so a last-rank table is not re-labelled as a score requirement or an admission assurance.

Interpret a historical chart responsibly

A chart should make a matching set of figures easier to read. The year, phase, category and rank scale must remain visible, and its table should allow the reader to inspect the values. Rank numbers also need careful interpretation: a numerically smaller closing rank and a numerically larger closing rank describe different levels of historical competition on the same list. A steep visual change can result from axis choices, so read the actual numbers before drawing a conclusion about the institution or your own prospects.

Build a balanced preference list

Historical ranks can help organise a range of choices, but avoid designing the whole list around one predicted outcome. Include colleges that fit your programme interest, eligible category, budget and location needs. Arrange them according to your genuine preference while following the counselling rules. Keep a separate note of the assumptions behind any admission-chance estimate. A sensible plan also considers the practical consequences of an allotment: joining payments, travel, documents and accommodation. These factors remain important even when a historical rank looks encouraging.

Keep fee and cutoff categories aligned

An attractive historical rank can belong to a category with a different financial commitment. Before treating it as a realistic option, open the Fees section and identify the corresponding tuition and joining scope. Do not use the rank of one category with the cost of another to construct an apparently affordable choice. A complete admission plan connects the eligible category, the allotted course, the correct fee period and the reporting process. This keeps academic possibility and financial readiness in the same decision.

Distinguish qualification from allotment

Entrance qualification allows an applicant to proceed under the relevant conditions; it does not itself allocate a college seat. Counselling registration, accepted documents, submitted preferences and the applicable seat matrix remain separate steps. Similarly, a past closing rank is a record of a previous allotment process, not a new eligibility rule. Keep the Admissions checklist beside your rank comparison. This reduces the chance of missing a procedural requirement while concentrating on numbers or relying on an informal estimate from another admission year.

Use changes as questions rather than promises

If a historical rank moves noticeably, ask which other factors changed in the matching documents: programme intake, category allocation, participation conditions or counselling stage. Do not assign a single explanation without evidence. A new college can also have a short history that is unsuitable for a long-term trend claim. Retain the available years and avoid projecting a future closing number simply to extend a graph. The strongest use of historical data is to support informed preparation while keeping uncertainty visible and the underlying figures intact.

Keep the source row meaning intact

A last observed rank is meaningful only within the list from which it was extracted. Record whether the table groups a candidate community or an allotted reservation category; those are not interchangeable descriptions. Retained allotments and newly changed allotments can both appear in a round snapshot. Keep them in the stated record count rather than interpreting every row as a newly available seat. Do not merge quota-list ranks with All India Rank in a single trend.
