Rank interpretation

Why one closing-rank number is not enough

A closing rank is meaningful only when it is attached to an academic year, programme, counselling authority, category and round. Mixing an MBBS rank with a postgraduate rank—or a Round 1 figure with a stray-vacancy figure—creates a false comparison.

The closing rank is the last allotted rank visible in the relevant result, not a guaranteed threshold for the next year. Candidate preferences, exam performance, fee changes, seat conversion and the number of available seats can shift the outcome.
