Duration and Clinical Training

The approved duration varies by university. A common structure is three academic years followed by one year of internship, giving a total of four years. Other institutions may organise clinical credits or internship periods differently.

Clinical learning should begin with demonstrations and simulation before progressing to supervised patient investigations. Rotations may include neurology outpatient and inpatient services, EEG and neuromuscular laboratories, epilepsy-monitoring units, sleep laboratories, neurocritical care, operating theatres and research laboratories.

Applicants should ask how many procedures students observe and perform, whether a logbook records competencies, which professionals supervise each rotation and how the internship is assessed. A long list of technologies in the syllabus does not guarantee meaningful hands-on experience.
