Skills students should develop
Graduates need safe equipment handling, infection control, communication, accurate observation, documentation and emergency escalation. They may perform approved tests, prepare equipment, monitor response and support ventilation under authorised protocols and supervision.
They are not pulmonologists or independent medical practitioners. They must not diagnose disease, prescribe drugs, independently start or stop life support, or change ventilator settings outside authorised orders and competence. Worsening oxygenation, unstable observations or equipment failure requires prompt escalation.
