Skills students should develop
DMLT graduates may perform authorised routine procedures, maintain equipment and records, support quality systems and communicate findings through the approved laboratory chain. Job titles may include Medical Laboratory Associate, laboratory technician or assistant depending on employer rules.
They must not independently diagnose disease, provide medical interpretation directly to patients, sign reports beyond authorised scope, modify results or operate an unsupervised diagnostic laboratory contrary to applicable law. Critical values, unsafe specimens, failed controls and unexpected results require escalation.
