Skills students should develop
BPA students need communication, observation, clinical reasoning, teamwork, infection control, documentation and emergency escalation. Activities must remain within training, employer policy, authorised protocols and physician supervision.
A physician associate is distinct from an MBBS doctor. Graduates cannot independently diagnose and treat patients, prescribe medicines, perform unsupervised procedures, certify death or represent themselves as registered medical practitioners. The attending physician retains responsibility for medical diagnosis and treatment decisions.
