Career routes and professional limits
Graduates may seek entry-level roles in hospital medical-record departments, clinics, diagnostic networks, insurance-support services, health-information vendors, quality departments, research projects and public-health data programmes. Job titles include medical-record technician, health-information assistant, records coordinator and documentation associate, depending on employer rules.
The current NCAHP HIM career map distinguishes diploma and degree levels and links advancement to qualification and experience. A diploma graduate should compare each vacancy's exact qualification wording instead of assuming eligibility from a similar job title.
Further education may include eligible bachelor programmes in health information management, hospital administration, public health, health informatics or related fields. Lateral entry or credit transfer is available only when the admitting university expressly permits it for the candidate's recognised diploma and current admission cycle.
