Professional registration comes first

Career eligibility depends on successful completion of the recognised academic programme, prescribed clinical work, internship and applicable professional-registration requirements. The RCI framework states that successful students are registered as Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist in the Central Rehabilitation Register, subject to the current process.

A graduate should work within training, competence, registration and the current scope of practice. BASLP does not confer the authority of a medical doctor and does not authorise prescribing medicine.

Audiology and hearing-care roles

Audiologists may work in hospitals, ENT services, diagnostic clinics, cochlear-implant programmes, hearing-care centres and rehabilitation services. Responsibilities can include hearing assessment, paediatric testing, hearing-aid or implant-related care, counselling, hearing conservation and auditory rehabilitation.

Technology-related work can include clinical support, fitting, training, research or customer education. Clinical recommendations should remain evidence-based and independent of sales pressure.

Speech-language pathology roles

Speech-language pathologists may work with children and adults in hospitals, clinics, schools, early-intervention programmes and rehabilitation centres. Work may involve speech sounds, language, social communication, fluency, voice, motor speech, neurological communication and swallowing within professional competence.

Community rehabilitation, public awareness, disability services, research and education can create additional pathways. Private practice requires appropriate registration, competence, facilities, documentation, ethical advertising and referral systems.

Higher study and working abroad

Common higher-study routes include M.Sc. Audiology and M.Sc. Speech-Language Pathology. Programme eligibility, entrance and approved capacity should be checked for the intended year. Research, academic and focused professional development may follow later.

Working abroad is not automatic. Each destination may require credential evaluation, local registration, examinations, language evidence or supervised practice. Begin with the destination regulator rather than an agent’s promise.
