Four years and eight semesters
The current RCI curriculum framework describes BASLP as four academic years or eight semesters, including one academic year of clinical internship. The curriculum carries 160 credits. The internship begins after successful completion of the sixth semester and occupies the seventh and eighth semesters.
The first three years integrate theory, practical laboratory work and clinical education. Students progress from normal hearing and communication sciences to assessment, interpretation, rehabilitation and intervention under supervision.
Clinical learning before internship
Clinical preparation starts before the final year. Early activities may include observation, demonstrations, guided test administration and structured documentation. As competence develops, students participate in case history, assessment, counselling, goal setting, intervention and follow-up under an authorised supervisor.
Attendance and clinical completion are not minor formalities. The RCI framework specifies minimum attendance expectations, including a higher threshold for clinical and practical work. Students should confirm university examination, internal assessment and clinical-hour requirements at the start of the programme.
One-year clinical internship
The internship is intended to move the student from guided learning toward supervised professional readiness. Rotations may include audiology clinics, speech-language pathology services, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, schools, early-intervention programmes and community or outreach settings.
Students may be assessed through attendance, clinical competencies, case records, presentations and supervisor evaluation. Internship completion is an essential component of the degree. A stipend may be available in some settings, but it is not guaranteed and should not be assumed during financial planning.
- Ask where interns are placed and who supervises them.
- Confirm the range of paediatric and adult cases available.
- Check case-log, attendance and competency requirements.
- Request the written stipend policy, if any.
