What is the standard name of the course?
The current national nomenclature is Bachelor in Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology (BMRIT). Some universities may still use related B.Sc. titles.
How long is BMRIT?
It is four years: three academic years followed by one compulsory year of clinical training or internship.
How is admission decided?
Admission is based on merit in the Senior Secondary (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination. Candidates should follow the applicable state, university or institutional counselling notification.
Is BMRIT the same as radiology?
No. Radiology is a medical specialty. BMRIT prepares allied-health professionals who perform imaging procedures and produce images for clinical interpretation.
Can graduates independently interpret scans?
No. They evaluate images for technical quality, while diagnostic interpretation and reporting are performed by authorised medical professionals.
Does the course cover CT and MRI?
Yes, the curriculum includes CT and MRI. The quality of hands-on experience depends on the institution's equipment, patient volume, rotations and supervision.
Is the internship compulsory?
Yes. The standard programme includes a one-year, 2,400-hour clinical internship.
Is there radiation exposure during training?
Some modalities use ionising radiation. Students must receive radiation-protection education, personal monitoring where applicable, supervised practice and access to compliant facilities. MRI and ultrasound do not use ionising radiation but have their own safety requirements.
Can diploma holders obtain lateral entry?
Eligible diploma holders may be considered under prescribed conditions, but equivalence, work experience, subjects and seat limits must be verified with the admission authority.
What should I check before joining a college?
Confirm the degree title, four-year structure, affiliation, approved intake, active imaging modalities, radiation-safety systems, clinical supervision, internship rotations, complete fees and recent graduate outcomes.
