Understanding the BMRIT pathway
What is BMRIT?
Bachelor in Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology (BMRIT) is an undergraduate allied-health programme that prepares students to produce diagnostic medical images and support imaging procedures. The current national curriculum uses Medical Radiology and Imaging Technologist as the recommended professional title.
Students learn patient preparation, radiographic positioning, image acquisition, equipment operation, radiation protection, image-quality evaluation and clinical documentation. Training covers conventional and digital radiography and introduces advanced modalities such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, fluoroscopy, angiography and bone densitometry.
Who should consider this course?
BMRIT graduates are not radiologists. A radiologist is a medically qualified specialist who interprets examinations, makes diagnoses and directs medical management. An imaging technologist performs authorised imaging procedures, assesses technical image quality and works with the radiologist and clinical team within the permitted professional scope.
Colleges may still advertise related names such as B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc. Radiography or B.Sc. Radiological Technology. Applicants should check whether the curriculum, duration, internship and final award align with the current BMRIT standard.

Entry requirements
BMRIT eligibility
Eligibility can change by admission year and candidate category. Treat the current official examination and counselling documents as controlling.
| Eligibility check | What the applicant should confirm |
|---|
| Qualifying education | The standard entry requirement is completion of 10+2 or an equivalent recognised examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Candidates educated abroad need an equivalent qualification and should have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English at the senior-secondary level. |
|---|
| Admission-year conditions | Candidates must have completed 17 years of age at admission or must complete 17 years on or before 31 December of the admission year. A medical-fitness certificate endorsed by a government medical officer is required. Candidates should verify the applicable university, government and category-relaxation rules for their admission year. |
|---|
| Documents and verification | The national curriculum does not establish one universal Class 12 percentage for every applicant in the eligibility passage. Therefore, students should use the minimum marks stated in the current prospectus of the admitting university rather than relying on an unsourced general percentage. |
|---|
Stored course eligibility summaryApplicants should complete 10+2 or an accepted equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, satisfy the current age and medical-fitness conditions and meet the marks, equivalence, category and document rules in the responsible admission notice. Selection commonly follows qualifying-examination merit and the applicable counselling process.
Academic scope
Duration, syllabus and learning areas
The exact syllabus, rotations and assessment follow the current regulator, university and institution curriculum. These are the major areas applicants should expect to investigate.
| Training phase | Major focus |
|---|
| Programme structure | BMRIT is a four-year programme comprising three academic years and one compulsory year of clinical training or internship. The structure covers eight semesters: six academic semesters followed by the seventh and eighth semesters of internship. |
|---|
| Academic and practical progression | The national curriculum assigns approximately 640 theory and practical hours per academic semester and 2,400 hours to the internship, for a stated total of 6,240 hours. Clinical training is therefore a core requirement, not an optional add-on. |
|---|
| Internship and completion | Students should rotate through active imaging services under qualified supervision. Exposure should include general and mobile radiography, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy and other available modalities, along with patient care, image processing, quality assurance and radiation-safety practice. |

Fees, seats and admission details
Fees and seats belong to a college, academic year, category and source. A blank seat value means MedCollege has not stored a sufficiently current verified intake—not that the programme has no seats.
The first-year planning figure excludes a separately identified refundable caution deposit where the official fee schedule permits that calculation. A range means the amount varies by specialisation. The published total shown is the course fee in the cited notice; hostel, mess and personal expenses may be separate.
