Internship and registration come first

Career eligibility follows successful completion of the recognised BAMS programme, compulsory rotating internship and applicable registration or legal requirements. Graduates must work within their training, competence, professional system and the law applying where they practise.

BAMS is not MBBS. A graduate should not assume unrestricted modern-medicine authority or advertise a title, procedure or specialist status that has not been lawfully earned.

Clinical and government services

Eligible graduates may work in Ayurvedic hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, wellness services or community programmes. Government opportunities may arise through state AYUSH services, public-health programmes, teaching hospitals or other recruiting bodies, each with its own examination, registration, posting and service conditions.

Private practice requires appropriate registration, premises, medicines, records, referral systems, consent, safety and ethical advertising. Revenue is uncertain and professional reputation takes time to build.

Postgraduate, research and academic pathways

Eligible graduates may pursue MD or MS Ayurveda specialities through the current postgraduate entrance and counselling route. Research, teaching and academic administration commonly require additional recognised qualifications and role-specific standards.

Public health, epidemiology, hospital administration, health education or policy may be explored with suitable additional study. Admission eligibility differs by programme.

Industry, wellness and international work

Ayurvedic pharmaceutical and wellness organisations may offer work in product development, quality, research, medical information, training, pharmacovigilance, regulatory support or clinical services. Healthcare decisions should remain independent of commercial pressure.

An Indian BAMS degree does not automatically grant a licence abroad. Each country defines whether Ayurveda practice is regulated, what activities are permitted and what immigration or local credentials are required.
