What is the full form of BAMS?

BAMS stands for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery.

How long is BAMS?

The standard course is five and a half years: three professional sessions of eighteen months each followed by a one-year compulsory rotating internship.

Is NEET compulsory for BAMS?

Yes. BAMS admission uses NEET-UG under the prevailing national framework, followed by the applicable AACCC or state counselling process.

Does qualifying NEET guarantee a BAMS seat?

No. Allotment depends on eligibility, rank, category, quota, preferences, seat availability, documents and reporting.

Is BAMS the same as MBBS?

No. BAMS is an Ayurveda qualification, while MBBS is the primary undergraduate qualification in modern medicine.

Can BAMS graduates practise modern medicine?

Graduates must follow the lawful scope of their qualification, registration, competence and the rules applying where they practise. Unrestricted authority should not be assumed.

Does BAMS include surgery?

The curriculum includes Shalya Tantra and surgery-related education, but lawful practice depends on recognised training, registration, competence and applicable regulation.

Is Sanskrit required?

Students learn Sanskrit terminology and classical Ayurvedic texts as part of the prescribed curriculum.

Is internship compulsory?

Yes. The one-year compulsory rotating internship is an essential component of the standard programme.

Is internship stipend guaranteed?

No. The policy differs across institutions and states and should be verified from a current written source.

What can I study after BAMS?

Eligible graduates may pursue MD or MS Ayurveda and other programmes that accept BAMS under their current entry rules.

Can BAMS graduates open a clinic?

An appropriate practice may be established after internship, registration and other legal requirements, within competence and lawful scope.

How should I choose a BAMS college?

Check current NCISM permission, university, intake, teaching hospital, faculty, pharmacy, clinical exposure, internship, fees, hostel and student support.

Which counselling authority handles BAMS?

AACCC manages the AYUSH seats within its published scope, while state or UT authorities manage applicable state seats.
