KGMU Lucknow
About KGMU Lucknow
King George's Medical University is a government medical university in the Chowk area of Lucknow. Its teaching environment brings foundational medical sciences, specialist departments, hospital services and research into the same university system.
KGMU has two important historical dates. Its origins are associated with the 1905 initiative to establish a medical college, while the first medical teaching session began in October 1911. This profile uses 1911 for the start of teaching. University status followed a state Act in 2002. The former medical college and the present university should therefore be understood as stages in one institution's development.
For an MBBS applicant, the main questions are the quality of supervised clinical learning, the affordability of the complete course, the correct counselling route and the practical experience of living in Lucknow. A recognised institutional name can help build a shortlist, but a student should also understand the timetable, progression requirements, clinical rotations and support available when academic work becomes demanding.
The university's academic catalogue covers MBBS and postgraduate and super-speciality medical programmes. It also lists dentistry, nursing, allied-health, doctoral, fellowship and certificate pathways. The medicine catalogue in this update covers 43 core MBBS, MD/MS and DM/MCh programmes; it is not a claim that every university qualification has the same admission process.
