KGMU Lucknow
Clinical exposure at KGMU
Clinical education connects basic medical knowledge with supervised patient assessment, investigation and management across the university’s departments.
Foundational preparation
Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and related practical work help students understand the mechanisms behind clinical findings.
Departmental postings
Medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and other clinical subjects develop different approaches to assessment and care.
Diagnostic reasoning
Pathology, microbiology, imaging and laboratory interpretation help connect symptoms with evidence and treatment decisions.
Progressive responsibility
Observation, assisted practice and assessed competencies should develop under supervision. Responsibility depends on the training stage and institutional rules.
KGMU's institutional NIRF submission reports 4,000 hospital beds and an average OPD attendance figure of 8,800 for calendar year 2022. These are historical self-reported service measures, not a current bed audit or a promise of patient access for each student.
When visiting, ask how many students join a clinical unit, how often bedside teaching occurs, who reviews case records and how practical skills are assessed. A busy service is most educational when patient encounters are connected to feedback and protected teaching time.
