Read the employment and higher-study columns together. Choosing postgraduate training can reduce the share immediately entering employment without meaning the remaining graduates were unemployed. A median also hides variation between jobs and cannot predict an individual offer. The table describes reported cohorts, rather than a recruitment promise for today’s applicants.
PG outcome split, 2024–25
81.7% placed · 18.3% higher study
What the percentage means
Calculated from the cohort counts in the outcome table: 58 ÷ 71 and 13 ÷ 71. The denominator includes graduates continuing their education. A percentage using only those not selected for further study answers a different question. We show the counts so students can distinguish the two.
Teal: placed. Gold: selected for higher study. Rounded to one decimal; institutional categories retained.
Reported median salary trend
PG three-year group, annual median among placed graduates:
Bars start at zero; common scale ₹0–19 lakh. Exact values are also available in the outcome table. Historical group-level medians do not measure salary growth for the same people.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar data insights
Good visual comparisons start with a defined dataset. A course catalogue chart measures named entries, while an intake, enrolment or placement chart requires a different source.
Choose the chart that matches the question
A pie chart can show how the named catalogue entries are distributed between qualification groups. It cannot establish the proportion of students enrolled in those groups. The denominator is the number of recorded entries, including grouped entries where the source uses a family label.
A fee comparison needs amounts with compatible periods and inclusions. A reporting collection should not be graphed beside a full annual residential budget as though both were annual tuition. A historical trend also needs the same measure across years and must leave missing observations visible.
For career outcomes, define the graduating cohort and the meaning of placed, higher study and salary. A percentage should state its numerator and denominator. Without those definitions, an attractive chart may communicate more certainty than the source supports.
Keep a small data dictionary with the value, unit, programme, year, category and source scope. This improves both charts and ordinary tables. If two numbers disagree, first check whether they describe different measures before treating one as an error.
At a glance
| Visual | Required measure |
|---|---|
| Catalogue composition | Named entries by qualification group |
| Fee comparison | Compatible programme, period and inclusions |
| Historical trend | Consistent measure and source years |
| Outcome percentage | Defined cohort, numerator and denominator |
Your next steps
- State the question before choosing a chart.
- Keep units and years beside values.
- Do not interpolate missing observations.
- Use tables when exact scope matters more than decoration.
